More Helpful Hints !!

This one is from Stephanie...

Dear Edie,  – I just discovered your website and spent my entire lunchbreak scanning it – it’s great!

I’m a choreographer and former dancer, as well as a “new” (5-year) salsa fanatic. Your tips are fabulous – I just wanted to offer a couple of my own:

Regarding women wearing briefs over their pantyhose when wearing flair-out skirts: Having been involved in dance, theater and music since I was seven years old, I have always believed in the “when in doubt, wear black” philosophy. I’ve touted that bit of wisdom to all my dancers for years. Then, to my dismay, it was brought to my attention that black briefs worn over flesh-colored hose or bare legs can create the illusion (especially from a distance) that the dancer is actually wearing no undergarments whatsoever, and worse, that she hasn’t ever heard of a bikini wax. Depending on the costume and the moves, I now recommend briefs that either match the skirt, or if there won’t be a “full view”, briefs that match the color of the hosiery (whoa – did you see that? Her legs go on for years!).

One added tip you might already have, but I didn’t find it: I never go anywhere without a stash of safety pins, and it really served me well one night when I hadn’t properly tested a new dancing dress (and my “extra” was already used and sweaty). The zipper (which went well down my back to the middle of my posterior) completely stripped and broke, and when my friend tried to fix it, she snapped off the zipper pull. This could have put an early end to a night of great club hopping, but luckily I had my little bag of pins – I disappeared into the ladies’ room, carefully pinned my dress on, in such a way that if the pins popped open, they would be on the outside of the dress and not poking into me, and then resumed dancing. My safety pin stash gave me a good 4 additional hours of dancing.

Just my two cents’ worth – thanks for your great website!
